Kermit Goswell and the American Holocaust

Those of my lovely readers who have been here for a while might remember the days I would post about abortion.  I haven't done so in a long time, mostly because I really didn't have anything new to say.  The facts haven't changed.  My opinions haven't changed.  The best ways to help this war - and it is a war - haven't changed.

This week, I found out about something that's been going on for a while - and yet has somehow managed to bypass every major news outlet.

Heard of Kermit Goswell?  I did, vaguely, a while back when this whole trial business started.  I didn't know then what I learned this week.  This man - this monster - is the abortionist behind the House of Horrors.  The news article I read stated, "accusations of babies having their heads severed — a major human rights story if there ever was one — doesn't make the cut. [of being on the front page] You don't have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being 'pro-choice' or 'pro-life.' It's about basic human rights."

I'd go into my thoughts and feelings on this sick, twisted, disgusting matter, but yesterday I read a blog post that really sums it up a lot better than I could.  I'd highly recommend that all of you go read it.

The Law of Fetucide

It's been a while since I talked about abortion and the pro-life cause, although it's a fight that's close to my heart.  Recently, a lady at church told me about some local news she'd caught and thought I might want to share with you, my lovely readers.

A man in Henry County, Georgia, ran over his pregnant 27-year-old girlfriend in his pickup truck.  Police arrested him and charged him with felony murder and fetucide.  Being as involved with the pro-life cause as I am, I was a little surprised to hear such a charge existed.  Fetucide?  Is that new?  But I looked it up, and apparently it's a real law in Georgia.

Fetucide as defined by Georgia law basically means any unborn child being intentionally killed without legal justification by hurting the mother or being intentionally killed while their killer commits a felony.

So, a doctor does an abortion.  His justification is that the baby's unwanted (the parents can't afford kids/another kid, the situation involves a single or teen mom, the parents want a different gender, etc.).  According to the doctors, abortion does not hurt the mother.  And sometimes it doesn't - not physically, anyway.  But it always affects them deeply psychologically, and there are more cases of physical problems than abortionists will admit.  In conclusion, a man kills an unborn child on scant-but-legal justification and maybe without harm to the mother.  He's innocent.

This Henry County man runs over the mother and gets charged with what's essentially two different kinds of murder.  Right now, officials aren't even sure if the deaths were intentional or accidental, but either way this situation doesn't sit right with me.

How does any of this make sense?  Why does one man kill a baby and get called a doctor, while another man kills a baby and gets called a criminal?  It's so twisted.

Some of you may have noticed or wondered about the banner at the top of my blog - you know, the big red and black movie ad.  As all of you know, I'm a teenager (a minor - 18 and 19 year olds are not teenagers in my mind)  As many of you know, I don't sell advertising space on this blog, ever.  I share my honest opinions of products and services, and if I really like something I'll promote it.  The movie advertised in the banner is called 180, and it is a 33-minute award-winning documentary about the Holocaust, abortion, and Jesus.

In this film from Ray Comfort and Living Waters, the street evangelist speaks for a few minutes to several different people.  He surveys Americans, mostly around college age, on their knowledge of Hitler and the Holocaust.  After asking what they'd do in various situations - whether they'd kill Jews if their life were at stake, whether they'd kill Hitler's pregnant mother, etc. - he then asks their stance on abortion.  They share their views and when they feel it's okay to kill the baby.  After more questions and discussion, all seven of the highlighted individuals have changed their pro-abortion stance to pro-life.

Using an adapted street survey method similar to his and Kirk Cameron's evangelism show, The Way of the Master, Ray reveals the correlation between the German Holocaust of the past and the American Holocaust of the present.  This film has been heavily criticized for putting too little significance on the German Holocaust, but as a Jewish Christian who has researched and written books on the subject, Ray does quite the opposite.  He has also been charged with putting too much emphasis on abortion and abusing the memory of the Holocaust.  When the number of children killed today is ten times the number of Jews killed then, I wonder how they can even think such things.

The DVD also has two trailers for the film, a short abortion facts video, a video message from Ray, two CD-style audio messages, and the option of English subtitles.  This was a tasteful but truthful movie dealing with horrific topics that are all too often forgotten or ignored because of the tragedy behind them.  I recommend it to everyone, with a warning that there are some graphic/disturbing images of the Holocaust and it comes with a public advisory warning.

Miniature Cupcakes

This is my last cupcake post for the year, I promise!  But when I came to 'm,' all I could think was 'my' or 'mini'... so then I thought of the millions of mini cupcakes we made for Cupcake Day 2011!

Silence

Today, I interrupt my blog schedule to share a very important pro-life day.

I'm not going to write anything today; most of you know my stand on the abortion issue by now, and those who don't can just check out these posts.

Today is an important day in the pro-life world: Silent Solidarity Day.  I'm registered to wear an arm band; maybe next year I can make the vow of silence, too.

Will you give up your voice for a day in honor of those who will never have one?

The Truth About Abortion

Abortion is defined as “the termination of a pregnancy through the death of the embryo or fetus; especially the medical procedure of killing and expelling a human fetus to terminate a pregnancy.” (Webster’s Medical Dictionary)

One out of every three American women will have an abortion by age 45.  18% of these women are teenagers.  58% are in their twenties.  85% are unmarried.

 African-American children are aborted at five times the rate of white children.  In fact, Planned Parenthood – the largest abortion provider in the United States – was originally founded to rid America of blacks.

About 1.21 million abortions occur yearly in America.  It is the most common surgical procedure in the country, and it is legal through all nine months of pregnancy in all fifty states.

Planned Parenthood has released statistics proving that 93% of abortions are performed on healthy mothers with healthy babies.  Less than 1% of abortions are performed because the baby is the result of rape or incest.

In 2007, 31,038 abortions were performed in Georgia.  68% of the mothers were under the age of thirty.  6% were under eighteen.  81% were unmarried.  70% were an ethnicity other than white.

The most common method of abortion is the Suction Aspiration, or Vacuum Aspiration, procedure.  Basically, this procedure uses a surgical vacuum tube to rip apart the baby’s body, limb from limb, and suck all the pieces into a jar.

Another common method is the non-surgical abortion.  This involves the mother taking a drug which compromises the uterus and starves the baby to death.  Another drug then causes the mother to go into labor and deliver a dead body.  Morning-after contraception pills are a form of non-surgical abortions.

In a dilation and curettage abortion, the baby is cut into pieces, its skull is crushed, and the parts are scraped out of the mother’s womb.  In a partial-birth abortion, or dilation and extraction, the baby is delivered feet-first and head down until its body is out but its head is still within the womb.  The brain is then sucked out through the base of the skull and the body is disposed of.

 Why Abortion Is Wrong

Biologically and scientifically speaking, both human and animal life begins at conception.  The abortion procedures are brutal and cruel, often causing the baby and the mother physical pain.  The mother - and those involved with her decision - rarely has an abortion without long-lasting psychological effects.

One of the most well-known Bible passages is that of the Ten Commandments.  Within this passage is the command not to kill.  Abortion ends a life, plain and simple.  However, many Christians know little about this evil; those that do rarely do much about it.

James 1:27 says that pure religion includes visiting the fatherless in their affliction.  Are not the unloved and unwanted babies of this world truly fatherless in spirit?  Psalm 82:3-4 goes further and commands Christians to “defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.  Deliver the poor and needy:rid them out of the hand of the wicked.”

Leviticus 20:1-5 tells us of God instructing the Israelites not to allow the giving of children to Molech.  Molech was a pagan god worshipped by child sacrifices; God warns that any who participate in or allow such sacrifices will be cut off from Him.

In Jeremiah 19:4-6, God says that a certain valley will be renamed the “Valley of Slaughter” because it has been filled with the blood of innocents.  A little bit of research will show that abortion definitely sheds innocent blood.

Throughout the Bible, Christians are commanded to take no part in evil doings, but rather to stop them.  Ephesians 5:11 says not to have anything to do with evil works; but it also commands us to reprove, or expose, them.  Proverbs 31:9 commands us to “plead the cause of the poor and needy.”

While God loves all people – including those that abort their babies or that commit the act itself – He includes “hands that shed innocent blood” in a list of things He hates most.  (Proverbs 6:16-19)

There are other verses that speak about innocent blood, aiding the defenseless, and other relevant topics; several are listed to the right.  If the points made here do not stir you to action in some way, I pray that God will touch your heart and open your eyes to the evils committed in abortion facilities across the nation and the world.

Who Wants Cupcakes?

It's a normal scene: a kid at school brings in a tray of cupcakes to share with her classmates.  Maybe they're homemade, with rainbow sprinkles falling off onto the tray.  Maybe they're storebought, with the frosting stuck to the top of the plastic box.  She carries them with her backpack and purse into the classroom and sets them on her desk while she puts her bags down.  Once her teacher gives her the go-ahead, she shares the tempting pastries.  Maybe she walks around the room, setting one on each desk.  Maybe she opens the box and waits for her classmates to swoop in and claim their sweet cupcake.

The classmates, of course, wish her a happy birthday and possibly thank her on their way back to their desks.  But then the scene becomes less than normal.

"It's not my birthday," she announces, her voice bold and something very close to flint determination filling her eyes.  She waits for the inevitable question.

The boy three seats back is the one to ask it.  "Well then... whose is it?"  After all, cupcakes at school must mean a birthday.

She clears her throat.  Her mouth is caught between a steely line and a powerful smile.  With a strong, clear voice she proclaims, "Today is October 9, and these cupcakes are in memory of the fifty-three million children who will never have a birthday," she pauses... "because of abortion."

This scene plays out with boys and girls across America every year.  This year will be my first year participating in this event.  This year, October 9 falls on a Sunday, and the Sunday School classes of Mikado Baptist Church are in for a wake-up call.

786,500 abortions were performed on self-proclaimed Christians in 2008.  Countless Christians know little to nothing of abortion and its horrors.  Countless Christians know the terrors of this legal murder, but turn a blind eye and deaf ear to it.  How can we let this continue?  How can we let millions of babies die cruel and preventable and selfish deaths, while we sit in cushioned pews in air-conditioned auditoriums discussing which restaurant to meet at for lunch?  It's time for the church to wake up and face this evil - along with the many others than we allow to eat away the flesh of this nation while we live inside our little bubbles of 'happy Christian lives.'

Remembrance

America has certain days during which we remember things of the past - usually lives lost and tragedies that occurred on that day in history.  One such day that passed recently was the tenth anniversary of 9/11.  Another obvious day is Memorial Day.

Today is a lesser-known one of these days.  Today is the day that Americans remember the millions of lives lost and the tragedies that have occurred since January 1973.  Today is Pro-Life Memorial Day.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton in 1973, 53 MILLION babies have been surgically and medically aborted - millions more have been killed chemically. This staggering death toll is the direct result of these two decisions.
On the first Monday in October, the U.S. Supreme Court begins its new term. This is a day on which pro-lifers across the nation will mourn the victims of America's hidden holocaust: abortion.
Who will hear the cries of these preborn children? Who will be their voice? Who will mourn their deaths? On October 3rd, thousands of Americans will be mourning the victims of abortion by gathering for prayer and candlelight vigils at the U.S. Supreme Court and abortion facilities nationwide.

Here at Struggles of a (Maybe) Teen Author, we're having our own virtual vigil.  At exactly 7:30 PM, I am taking a minute of silence.  60 seconds of prayer.  60 seconds without a voice, in memory of the millions who will never have even 60 seconds with one.  I ask you to join me.

The abortion holocaust is not over yet.  But if we never forget its hidden terrors - if we never stop fighting to save these children's lives - then, one day, it will be.

40 Days for Life

Annually on September 28 people across the country agree to give up something for 40 days and pray for the end of abortion.  This year is my first time joining this endeavor, and honestly I'm not sure how well it'll go.  I'm determined to stick to my fast by God's grace and to the best of my ability.  However, we have some very special company coming that may require an exception or two.  Also, last time I tried to fast anything didn't go so well.  (Think sobbing at Mom through a cell phone because the cake was chocolate - which was what I had given up.)  Regardless, here is what I'm attempting:

No Digital Entertainment.

This includes, but is not limited to:

~Netflix (or any other video streaming)
~DVD's
~Online games
~Offline video games (CD-ROM's, Wii, etc.)
~iPod/iLuv
~Music streaming

The 40 Days for Life fast begins with preparation on September 27.  Then, from September 28 through November 6, everyone fasts and prays individually.  Around-the-clock prayer vigils are held at Planned Parenthoods and other abortion facilities across the nation, and petition and education drives go door-to-door and neighborhood-to-neighborhood in many areas.  College campuses, local churches, and public media are all used as outlets to touch hearts and let people know what's going on and the truth about abortion.

The website features daily devotionals for those participating in the campaign, starting with preparation on September 27 and ending with a closing devotional on November 7.

Book Review: Culture Shift

In 100 A.D., Christianity was simple.  Not easy - not at all - but simple.  Christ was exactly what He said - the Son of God, the looked-for Messiah - and He had lived among the people for 33 years, died the worst possible criminal's death, and came back to life three days later.  Hundreds of people witnessed Him after this event before He ascended into the clouds with a promise to return.  The early Christians had a lot more persecution and problems than we do, but the biggest 'issues' within the church were those of divorce and choosing deacons and what 'modest' meant.

Today, those problems and issues still face many questions.  However, science, technology, the modern '-isms,' and other factors have dramatically changed the world Christians have to deal with.  Questions and issues the early Christians would never have imagined are now faced by believers daily.  Mr. Mohler writes clearly and, considering the depth and content level, simply for the everyday Christian to understand these problems.

The big problems are addressed: abortion, homosexuality, the corruption of public schooling, and others.  But those aren't the only chapters; important but not as obvious topics such as terrorism, atheism, nuclear war, digital living, and retirement are also addressed.  All topics are presented with a brief and understandable explanation of their origins, meaning, and where they stand in today's world, specifically America.  Mohler then continues to explain what a Christian ought to do and how he ought to approach each question Biblically.

The writing style is a bit more formal and harder to digest than some tenth graders' reading level, but I found it clear, easy to follow and understandable.  The writer also kept my interest, which is slightly impressive for this sort of genre.  This is definitely a good book for anyone looking to grasp modern issues who don't know where to start.  I recommend it to any Christians who are in their teens or early twenties, and also older Christians who are new in the faith.  I'm certainly keeping it as a reference book.

My only problem is the use of non-King James Version Bible quotes and references.  Otherwise, it would get all five stars.  I give this book four and a half stars.

I can only conclude that many of you have never made the choice that I did. If you had, wouldn’t you have told me more… because you care about me, right? You would have told me about the way the clinic smells of blood and death. You would have told me that undergoing a surgical abortion would be the worst pain I would ever experience. You would have told me that you can hear and feel the tissue being ripped away and sucked out of your body, and that even years later I wouldn’t be able to stand the sound of a normal household vacuum cleaner. You would have told me that they make post-abortive patients leave out of the back door because they don’t want anyone coming in to know what someone looks like going out. You would have told me that the evil presence in those clinics feels so thick you could cut it with a knife. You would have told me that my uterus could be punctured.

You would not have told me that it is only tissue.You would not have told me it was only cells. If you, too, had taken Mifepristone and given birth to a six-week-old embryo, you would not have told me it was not yet a baby. You would have told me it had a brain and a heartbeat and was very much a child. You would know because you, like me, would have seen it. You would have held it and known immediately that what you just killed was, in fact, a baby…but by that time it would be too late to change your mind. You would have told me about the nightmares and the enormous sense of loss. You would have told me that my abortions would end any hope for my boyfriend and I to ever have a family together. And, because you care about me, I would like to think that if you had known, you would have told me that when your baby dies, a part of you dies right along with it. The choice to terminate the hope of one life actually terminates the hope of two, and no matter how hard I wanted things to go back to normal, they never would.

Far Worse Than America's Worst

Ten years ago today, nearly 3,000 people died in one day.

Four planes crashed, killing 246.

2,606 died in the Twin Tower tragedies.

125 died in the Pentagon crash.

55 military personnel died as well.

Nearly 3,000 people died on that one day, and America pulled together like never before.  The past ten years have been affected by that one day that many people think of as the worst day in America's history.  Security has gone way up nation-wide; military personnel of all branches have fought, and many have died, trying to get revenge and put an end to those who were responsible.  Even today, there are deaths from unique illness caused by debris, smoke, or other factors that entered victim's bodies on that day.  Along with the 3,000, there are many others whose deaths have been identified as caused by such factors.  Documentaries, news specials, articles, blog posts, television shows, books, and many other forms of media have been created in memory of that one day.

Yet, every day in the world, there are roughly 115,000 deaths from a single cause.  That's 30 times as many as the 9/11 deaths.  That's 42 million deaths a year.  From one cause.  But few people fight to right these deaths; few people struggle to put an end to these unnecessary tragedies; few people fight for governmental aid and support in stopping these deaths; and few Americans know the truth about the horror surrounding this one cause of so many deaths.

The cause I speak of is abortion.

Now that you know what I'm talking about, you may sneer at the so-called facts I just shared.  Moments before, I'm sure you felt sorrow and compassion toward the tragedies of the mystery deaths; now you either share my rage at this killer or are itching to shut me up.  But I cannot be silenced as easily as those innocent billions.  I will not quiet my voice when billions of children are counting on me to say the words they cannot.

Like a servicewoman who dies in Afghanistan, fighting for freedom, and yet her name is never heard by those she died for; so I will die before allowing my fight for an innocent child's freedom to be ended.

On September 11, 2001, 3,000 people died and it changed America forever.  Today, 115,000 people will die; will it change you?

Sidewalk Chalk

Just a note: I was unable, as it turns out, to participate in this event due to housing rules in the area where I live. I'd encourage those who are able to do something, though:  DO!

Today is an important day to me.  Granted, yesterday morning I thought today would just be a typical school day interrupted by an orthodontist appointment and ended with the usual reading and getting-ready-to-write-a-book notes.

But then last night I discovered that today is an important day to the cause that is closest to my heart.  We all have a cause we support - a wrong in the world we fight to right, a campaign or mission that we support and are a part of.  My personal cause is ending the murder of innocent children before their first breath - in other words, stopping abortion.

And today is National Pro-Life Chalk Day.  So today I'll pull out that tub of chalk that's been gathering dust since Bella moved and try to make a difference in the world.

With a handful of chalk and an arsenal of pro-life slogans, you can leave a lasting impression on hundreds or even thousands of people.
Step 1: Pick up sidewalk chalk (Walmart, drug stores, young siblings)
Step 2: Collect your pro-life friends (this is optional, but helpful)
Step 3: Find a heavily trafficked public area
Step 4: Chalk short pro-life messages in large letters everywhere
